Honoring the lives and legacies of those who served the Caribbean fire and emergency services community with unwavering courage, compassion, and dedication.
Paramedic • Fire Chief, Barbuda Ocean Club
March 6, 2026
The Caribbean Association of Fire Chiefs mourns the passing of Lee J. Sagert — a firefighter, paramedic, rescue technician, and a true champion of emergency services across the Caribbean. Lee answered his last call on March 6, 2026, doing what he devoted his entire life to: serving others.
For over a decade, Lee served with the Antigua and Barbuda Search and Rescue (ABSAR) service, responding to countless emergencies and saving lives throughout the twin-island nation. He later took on the role of Fire Chief at the Barbuda Ocean Club, where he led fire, EMS, and rescue operations with the same tireless dedication that defined his career.
Lee’s impact on the advancement of emergency medical services in the Caribbean cannot be overstated. His expertise, willingness to train others, and passion for raising the standard of pre-hospital care helped shape a new generation of first responders across the region. He was a guest speaker at the 2025 CAFC Annual Conference in Negril, Jamaica, where he shared his knowledge and inspired fellow emergency services professionals with his vision for stronger, better-equipped Caribbean communities.
As ABSAR Director Jonathan Cornelius said: “Lee died doing what he loved to do, what he devoted his life to doing.” He was a colleague, a mentor, and a friend to many — and his legacy will live on in every life he touched and every responder he trained.
Rest easy, Chief. The Caribbean fire service family will carry your torch forward.
